Good Morning!
A few thoughts to ponder about this wonderful body which encases all we are. This temple which has the potential (though over the years it may deteriorate or function more slowly or only in part – remembering too some folk who through accident or birth have a less-functioning machine)
How do we respect our bodies and also balance the physical in the full cycle of what we are as humans-beings?
Physical activity is very important. Our bodies like well-oiled machines when treated well and used (Godly Wisdom) have an important effect on all the others ie the mental, the social, and can calm the emotional and even incorporate the spiritual but this is where the balance MUST come into play.
When the physical becomes ie ‘an obsession’ – the main reason for getting up, living, goal, planning, main income or aspiration in life and certainly fills a need inside then it effectively begins to swamp and CONTROL all the other functioning aspects. It can take the place which rightly belongs to the deeper potential of life – it can become A God. Deception surely fuels the pursuit of glamour, achievement and God like status. – Look what happened in ancient Rome!
The physical is vitally important. Each day we should determine to use arms, legs, gentle exercise of muscles, (normal part of each day) use eyes to really SEE the world around, ears to really LISTEN – in the midst of clamour what can you hear today? What can you smell? What can you touch – ie texture, rough, soft, wet, .) If you can run – run for the sheer joy of movement. If you walk, walk for the sheer joy of walking. Let it be the time when you can simply let all the other aspects flow in the rhythm of movement. Even stretching and breathing—–particularly if you breathe out your troubles and breathe in God’s Spirit …..Now that is incorporating a balance between the physical and the spiritual
which will indeed bring ALL things into line.
Have a great day! Enjoy the physical! Let it be the catalyst to minister to the WHOLE PERSON.
